A program led by Reverend Mark Kiyimba, from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Uganda. Any money you donate goes to Ugandans to improve Uganda, not white saviors or colonialists. This project is to create a queer space that provides internet connections, giving a voice to marginalized people. More information can be found at the link.

The Reverend is a leader in the LGBT movement in Uganda, and currently runs a school and orphanage near Masaka. If you can’t give, please boost at least. This is an expensive project and he has told me that it will take much effort. Thank you.

It says something that this has far less notes than posts that paint Africans as especially homophobic.

John Unger and his 19-year-old dog Schoep from Bayfield, Wisconsin have stolen many hearts with one photograph taken by Hannah Hudson. John rescued Schoep when he was just 8 weeks old and the two have been best friends since. Schoep now suffers from severe arthritis in his legs and it hurts so bad that Schoep cannot sleep, but John has figured out a way to ease his best friend’s pain. John takes Schoep to the waters of Lake Superior and holds him until he falls asleep, sometimes the two stay in the water for hours. Hannah Hudson snapped a picture of the two and after sharing the picture on Facebook it has been liked over 300,000 times and shared more than 200,000 times. Since the image went viral John has received enough donations to treat Schoeps arthritis.

It’s not stupid to judge a scene that fancies itself as counter-culture and revolutionary and progressive on behaviors that run against this self-admitted ideology they’ve painted themselves as. I’m sorry, but if you’re going to call yourself these things and have an uncritical analysis of racism, the patriarchy and other forms and means of oppression then stfu. It’s exactly why I can be annoyed with New Atheists and Moralistic Vegans. They’re uncritical, “progressive/radical/revolutionary” and either use their train of thought to ignore or excuse their oppressive behavior.

I’m talking about my experiences in the punk scene and why I feel alienated from it. Don’t tone police me. under this “well, it exists EVERYWHERE” bullshit.

How the fuck is that tone policing? Also I never said I wasn’t critical of people in the punk scene who do that, because I am, thank you very much. And I wasn’t even saying you were wrong that this is common in punk scenes. I’m saying that it’s rather silly to address this without addressing why it happens. As for your experiences, I’m sorry people in the punk scene were asshats to you in some form or another; however, you clearly aren’t talking about only your experiences when you generalize the entire scene as dudebro fuckers and you actually take away from my experience as a queer person who loves punk and has gotten through many difficult experiences by, in part, listening to punk music.

That’s cool and all but I’m a Queer punk too that has gone through some tough times with suicidal depression and punk has helped. This conversation was started by two Queer punks so I’m not sure what your point is there in pointing that out to me because we’re not erasing ourselves.

You’re tone policing by saying “well this happens everywhere so why are you focusing on the punk community???” which is saying I shouldn’t criticize punk because “racism and homophobia and such exists everywhere.” Yes, I’m aware of that. Still gonna criticize Punk for their oppressive behavior, sorry. It isn’t a generalization when all you hear about is white cis hetero punk men. It isn’t a generalization when all you see is white cis hetero punk men. It isn’t a generalization when only white cis hetero punk men are represented and this is within the scene. It isn’t a generalization when the punk scene gives Bad Brains a lot of shit for being homophobic when no one gives a shit about all the white cis punks who bash the Queer Punk community. It isn’t a generalization when PoC in punk bands are given less exposure than White punk bands. It isn’t a generalization when Queer punk bands are given less exposure than Cishet punk bands. It isn’t a generalization when Punks are willing to excuse Black Flag’s misogyny and have done so with death threats - this coming from “Feminist” cishet punk men. It isn’t a generalization when a lot of the Punk scene holds New Atheist and Moralistic Vegan beliefs which are racist and classist.

Clearly I don’t think all punks are dudebro fuckers because I’m a punk, and ok i’m a little bit of a fucker but I’m definitely not a dudebro and I try not to be oppressive.

I’ve met some really rad punks and I think some points of punk culture are really great and are important to me, but punk as a scene has disappointed me in a lot of ways and i’m allowed to vent about that

The same. I know really awesome intersectional punk rockers. But they aren’t the majority of the scene. The majority of the scene is what irritates me and I vent about that. I’m not saying every single punk is an oppressive dudebro (obviously not since I just talked about how Queer punks, PoC punks and Queer Punks of Color get little exposure) but that the scene reeks of oppressive dudebros.

This I pretty much agree with. It’s cool to vent, I think I just took you a bit too literally since there’s a ton you can’t convey via text for a mass audience. Thanks for not letting this devolve into some sort of shit flinging contest, btw.

Never did I ever have a problem with you criticizing punk.
